What is a facelift?

As the years go by and we get older, our skin gradually loses its elasticity. It also becomes less able to retain the moisture that keeps it supple. The skin then reacts by developing fine lines, and eventually wrinkles. Hair is also affected as we age. Previously full hair can become thin and brittle over the years. A PRP treatment is a simple and natural way to restore strength and elasticity to both skin and hair.

What is a PRP treatment?

PRP treatment is sometimes also called Dracula or vampire treatment. The somewhat scary names are due to the fact that the person being treated uses their own blood. In short, the treatment involves first taking blood from the patient. The blood is then centrifuged to extract platelets and plasma from it. The liquid containing plasma and platelets is then injected into the patient's problem area. In the skin, the platelets then seek out damaged collagen. There, the substance granules are secreted, which in turn activate adenosine diphosphate and fibrinogen, substances that cause the tissue to heal. In short, the treatment is about helping and accelerating the body's own healing process.

Is PRP treatment painful and are there any side effects?

The pain threshold varies from person to person, but in general, a PRP treatment is no more painful than a regular injection. When blood is extracted, it feels a bit like taking a blood sample. The treatment has few side effects. However, you may experience some mild swelling or redness after the treatment, but this should subside after a few days. Some people also experience a tingling sensation in the skin. It is important to be careful to state if you are taking any medications before starting the treatment.

What results does a PRP treatment provide?

The results in the form of firmer skin or more abundant hair growth are best seen after one year. However, the first changes can be seen after three to six weeks, then the results gradually improve month by month. To get optimal results from the treatment, it is recommended to undergo three treatments with a couple of weeks between each treatment. The results of the treatment then last between one and two years.
