What is a facelift?
When you see the beginning signs of aging on your face, it's common to want to do something about it. Then it's good to know that you don't have to undergo invasive surgery to get a more vibrant and fresh appearance. With the help of thread lift, you can lift your face with a simple treatment and stimulate new collagen formation without getting unsightly scars.
What is thread lift?
Thread lift is actually exactly what it sounds like. Thin threads are inserted under the skin and can then be used to lift the tissue. The threads are available with or without barbs, depending on the result you want to achieve. They are made of polydioxanone (PDO), a substance that is friendly to the tissue and is broken down by the body after a while. The actual insertion of the thread is always done by a doctor. The thread is inserted under the skin using a cannula with a very thin, hollow needle. Once the thread is in place, you can adjust it until you get the desired result. It is then attached. Since the thread is inserted using a needle, there are no scars after the treatment, which is otherwise common after a traditional face lift. Since the patient is awake during the procedure, the person in question can participate in and have their say when adjusting the thread by looking in a mirror. You can choose to have a thread lift on the entire face or parts of it, for example the upper or lower part.
How long does it take before you see the results of a thread lift?
You can see results right after the lift, but because the threads stimulate new collagen formation, the final results will only be visible after a few months. The threads used are broken down by the body after about six to nine months, but due to the newly formed collagen, the results last up to two years.
Does it hurt?
Some patients may feel some discomfort when barbed threads are used, but since you are anesthetized before the treatment, the discomfort is often minimal. The needle used is incredibly thin, which means that the prick in the skin is not particularly noticeable.
Are there any side effects or risk of complications?
Some redness, swelling and tenderness may occur. You may also experience small bruises after the treatment. However, these side effects are quickly transient. The risks of complications that exist are migration of the thread and nerve damage. However, this is very rare.
Are there any contraindications for thread lift?
You should consult the doctor who will perform the thread lift if you have skin infections or severe acne. You should also exercise caution if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Any of the following diseases or medical conditions may also be an obstacle to thread lift: autoimmune disease, hemophilia, if you have or have had bacterial endocarditis or are prone to forming keloids. Anyone taking blood-thinning medication should also avoid this type of treatment.
What should you consider before and after a thread lift?
Before the procedure, it is a good idea to avoid dietary supplements and medications that can thin the blood, such as Omega 3 and various types of painkillers. It is always a good idea to consult your doctor about this before the treatment if you feel unsure. It is also beneficial to avoid wearing makeup on the same day as the treatment. After the treatment, you can basically live as usual, but it is a good idea to avoid strenuous exercise and saunas for a week. You should also avoid exposing your face to pressure by, for example, sleeping on your stomach or wearing tight hats or other things that press against the skin. It is also important to avoid touching the treated area for at least 24 hours. You should also not do a peel or use any form of acid treatment on the area for a week. The same applies to shaving.
Is thread lift suitable for everyone?
Thread lift is best suited for those who have mild signs of aging and want to look more youthful and fresh. The treatment is also optimal for those who want a lift but do not want to undergo invasive surgery. If you have very loose skin and deep wrinkles, there are other treatment methods that are more beneficial.
